Windsurfing mast
Buying advice
The windsurfing mast is a central component of your rig and has a significant influence on the performance of your sail. The right choice of mast ensures an optimum bending curve, perfect power transmission and maximum control on the water. Windsurf masts differ mainly in terms of material, flex and carbon content. Beginners and recreational riders often opt for robust masts with a lower carbon content, as these are durable and attractively priced. Sporty riders and professionals prefer masts with a high carbon content, which are lighter and more responsive and give the sail a more precise shape. It is particularly important to pay attention to the bending curve: Ideally, you should combine mast and sail from the same brand, as manufacturers such as NeilPryde or north use special bending curves. You should choose the carbon content wisely: For large sails of around 7 m² or more, a higher carbon content will save you noticeable weight and benefit from better handling. For smaller sails, a slightly lower carbon content is often enough to save costs without major disadvantages. For very small sails around 3 m² (e.g. for foehn storms), it is often even advantageous to choose a slightly lower carbon content, as more flex improves control. Compatibility with your sail profile also plays a role: RDM (Reduced Diameter) masts offer handling advantages and are particularly popular with wave and freestyle surfers, while SDM (Standard Diameter) masts are often used for freeride and race sails. At Surfdeal you will find a wide selection of high-quality windsurf masts, tailored to different riding levels and areas of use
