Advanced paddlers, sporty beginners and people who are mainly on lakes will love the SUP boards in the touring category. Compared to the all-round boards, the touring boards are a bit longer and have a slightly more pointed nose shape, and are therefore a bit faster. In the upper price category, you could also consider a touring hardboard. However, these have mobility disadvantages and “scratch” easily.

Most people buy an inflatable touring board. Points to note are:
- The shape of the board. You want a really pointed nose and front half of the board. weight of the board.
- The heavier the board, the slower it is on the water (try to stay under 10kg on a 12'6 length).
- Length. The longer, the faster. The average height for people under 75 kg is 11'6 long and over 75 kg is 12'6. The more stable, the easier it is to cover long distances. Narrower than 76cm (30”) is tooshaky for most.
- For tours with more than 1 bag on board, you will appreciate an additional bungee cord at the stern
- Price differences: well-known brands like Red Paddle, Naish, Starboard have higher total costs (sales, marketing) than lesser-known brands like FIT OCEAN or STX, which are also at a high quality level.
