Which wingfoil material to buy ? + Top-offers
Which sizes for the foil, the board and the Wing ?
In the beginning you need stable and sufficiently large material to learn. Too small makes it frustrating.
Size wing
wing
Must be big enough to pull you up with board and foil. Windows prevent collisions. Thanks Hard handles make it easier to pump.
- Body weight under 70 kg ➨ wing approx. 4-5m2
- Body weight between 70-90 kg ➨ wing approx. 5-6m2
- Body weight over 90 kg ➨ wing approx. 6.5-7m2
Size board
Big enough to be stable when 'drifting' (not yet flying on foil ). An inflatable board works just as well as a hardboard when learning . No foot straps are needed for beginners
.- Body weight under 70 kg ➨ Board approx. 100-120 litres
- Body weight between 70-90 kg ➨ board approx. 120-160 litres
- Body weight over 90 kg ➨ board approx. 130 - 180 litres or more
Size hydrofoil
foil with a sufficiently large front wing, otherwise no lift/ lift. Mast not longer than 80 cm
.- Body weight under 70 kg ➨ Front wing approx. 1200-2000 cm2
- Body weight between 70-90 kg ➨ Front wing approx. 1500-2400 cm2
- Body weight over 90 kg ➨ Front wing approx. 2100 cm2 or more
Price-Quality?
- A set with a hardboard + hydrofoil and wing of a well-known brand costs around CHF 3000.- With our special offers you save because the materials are discounted. Footstraps are not required for beginners. But they are available in a set bundle.
- You can also save money if you choose a fitocean hydrofoil (made in the slingshot-factory) and a fitocean wing (made in the ensis-factory). Here you save because we can buy directly from the factory (no middleman)
1. Buy the right size equipment. See this blog
2. Don't buy the board too small.
3 . The large hydrofoil and wing always stay with you for light wind days . Later in your wingfoil career, as an intermediate, you simply add a smaller wing and hydrofoil for hardcore days.
I read something different everywhere on the internet
Warning for websites that recommend boards that are too small and claim: ''once you are in the air, you don't need a big board''. The problem is first and foremost learning to foil. For this you need a big enough board. After two years you can easily sell on your board and upgrade to a smaller board or hardboard.
Alternatively, you can use a large sup - board or an old windsurfing board as long as it has a centre fin/ centreboard so you don't drift. With this and a wing you can learn the basics of sailing with a wing.
