Slalom sail speed and pure foil- racing without the technical details
Directly derived from our
- RS: flight programme, the v8 flight offers almost as much speed, power and upwind/downwind capabilities as our pure racing foil sail, but with a narrower luff tube and only 2 cams.
Narrow double luff construction
- A much narrower luff sleeve than the RS: flight allows for faster and easier rigging and minimises the ability of the luff sleeve to fill with water when submerged after a fall.
Easier rigging than with a pure slalom sail
- With only 2 cambers and slightly less luff tension, the v8: flight can be rigged much faster than a fully cambered foil slalom sail.
Jibing and turning
- The advantage of a twin-cam sail when jibing is that the rotation is smoother and easier. This is particularly helpful when foiling, where any small movement of the sail can affect the flight of the foil through the gybe.
Foil-specific
- The v8 flight has been designed specifically for foil free racing and takes advantage of design features not possible with fin sails due to the control and wind delivery required.
High aspect ratio design
- The outline of the v8 flight is derived directly from the high-aspect design of the RS: flight. This allows the sail to optimally utilise every gust and ensures maximum speed and upwind/downwind performance.
Tight leech design
- As control over choppy waves is not an issue on the foil, the v8 flight is equipped with a tighter leech than a pure slalom sail. This increases acceleration and efficiency and allows the use of a smaller sail.
6-batten construction
- As foil sails do not place as much emphasis on control, we were able to reduce the v8 flight to 6 battens, which saves unnecessary weight and gives the sail a softer feel and better pump and gybing characteristics.
